Come enjoy the evening with some Past Presidents of FASNY. Annual FASNY Memorial Service
This prestigious program opens the Annual Convention in an honorable way that remembers the Association’s deceased members that have provided service to their respective communities. Prayers, scriptures and song lead the way to the reading of their names, tolling of the bell and memorial candle ceremony for those who have answered their final alarm.
10:00 a.m.-Noon Opening Session
The opening of the 147th annual Convention by Steven E. Klein is followed by introductions, Convention updates, business section meetings and the Association’s reports. This year’s keynote speaker is Chief Tonya Hoover, Superintendent of the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy.
10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Memorial Display
The names of deceased firefighters and candles from the Annual Memorial Service will be on display for the day.
12:30-3:45 p.m.
Speaker Series
Fire service experts present essential information on contemporary topics during this core Convention activity.
1:00-2:30 p.m. 2% Tax Forum Moderated by the Hannigan Law Firm
The 2% Tax Forum provides members of the fire departments and chartered benevolent associations the opportunity to listen to speakers from various New York State government agencies who will present an overview of 2% Tax usage and distribution pertaining to their areas of expertise. These speakers also take some time to answer questions submitted by the attendees at the forum. A certificate of attendance will be provided to all attendees.
2:45-4:00 p.m. Attorney Panel Discussion Moderated by the Hannigan Law Firm
A panel of attorneys including Terry and Tim Hannigan, William Young Esq, Frank Simeone Esq, Bill Glass Esq, Marc Butler Esq, Ray DiRaddo Esq and Connie Carhart CPA, will provide attendees with an opportunity to ask questions regarding department or chartered benevolent association operations.
4:00-6:00 p.m.
5th Annual Michael D. Whelan Walk
This annual walk honors the memory of longtime FASNY Secretary Michael D. Whelan with a benefit for the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. New this year, we are providing some challenges along the route for you and your team. These activities will provide a healthier, interactive approach while having some fun! Annual Michael D. Whelan Walk Commemorative T-shirts will be on sale at the FASNY Store.
7:00 p.m. 2nd Annual FASNY Grub & Pub Crawl – SOLD OUT
This event is designed to bring the firefighting family together for an evening of fun and refreshments while touring the well-known Armory Square District of Syracuse. All proceeds will go to the Gerard J. Buckenmeyer FASNY Volunteer Scholarship Program and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network to help our brothers and sisters. Drink specials, Commemorative Graphic T-shirts and transportation are included. Register early, there are limited spaces!

FASNY and Firemen’s Home officers are elected by a vote of the Convention delegates in attendance.
12:30-3:45 p.m. Speaker Series
Each year, attendees witness nationally known presenters and walk away with valuable knowledge and new expertise.
4:00-5:00 p.m.
“Post-Traumatic Stress” Panel Discussion
This panel discussion will provide attendees with an opportunity to hear from first responders who have seen and experienced PTSD first hand. They will discuss their personal experience as well as ways firefighters and fire service leaders can address this important issue.
6:00 p.m.
Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Scholarship Night
The Gerard J. Buckenmeyer FASNY Volunteer Scholarship Program is made possible each June through generous donations of individuals, companies, fire departments and auxiliaries. The evening event includes several basket raffles, music, fun and light refreshments. Please make an effort to stop by and support the FASNY scholarship program. FASNY would also like to recognize the in-kind support donated by McNeil and Co., which provides more than 80 hours of administrative work needed to process the applications and awards.

This ceremony recognizes the bravest emergency services members. It’s a prestigious honor designated for those who exemplify what fire and EMS service is all about by protecting the communities they serve. FASNY is proud to have VFIS Insurance Company sponsor these two awards at our Convention.
