LAFASNY
Ladies have played a role in FASNY for many years. Their service was first recognized by Ernest Wendt of Queens, who wanted the ladies taken into the Association.
His idea was first brought to the attention of FASNY at the Convention of 1932, when he offered a resolution to include ladies in FASNY. The FASNY Resolutions Committee felt that at that time it was too cumbersome to have a ladies auxiliary group of the Association. The resolution and four others were not presented to the Convention in 1932.
The year following, FASNY gave consent to use the name Ladies Auxiliary of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York, establishing LAFASNY. Currently, our Auxiliary membership is 548 individual members with 188 auxiliaries participating.
The mission of LAFASNY is to encourage cooperation and preserve the rights and privileges of auxiliaries of the volunteer fire service in the State of New York by increasing membership, organizing new auxiliaries and supporting legislation beneficial for all volunteer firefighter and to support the Firemen’s Home, along with programs on fire education, prevention and awareness proposed by the volunteer firefighters in the State of New York.
We accomplish this mission with constructive, educated support of the fire service and united cooperation between local, county and statewide auxiliaries.
