FASNY Advocates for Residential Sprinklers in Building Code Updates

The New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council (the Codes Council) is in the process of updating the state’s building and fire codes. FASNY is advocating for the inclusion of residential fire sprinklers in all new one and two-family homes as part of the code revisions. FASNY has advocated for residential fire sprinklers in New York State since they were added to the International Codes Council’s (ICC) Model Building Code.
The Codes Council is meeting on February 28th and is in the process of reviewing the latest version of the ICC Codes for adoption here in New York. The Codes Council may choose to adopt the ICC Codes in their entirety or with exceptions. FASNY has expressed the importance of keeping a requirement for residential sprinklers in one and two-family homes in the final adopted codes for New York State. As the meeting approaches, watch your email for a FASNY Voter Voice message asking you to weigh-in with your support for residential sprinklers.
