Sanborn man gets new position with state Firemen’s Association

David F. Schmidt of Sanborn has been elected vice president of the board of trustees of the Firemen’s Association of New York [FASNY] Firemen’s Home, a specialized rehabilitation facility for retired firefighters in Hudson.

Schmidt began as a junior firefighter in 1971 and in 1975 became an active firefighter with the Lewiston Fire Company No. 2. He has held a number of positions with Lewiston No.2 and served as chief in 1980. He also served as the president in 1983 for Lewiston No. 2, secretary, financial secretary and sergeant at arms. He has served as president of the exempt and benevolent association since 1992.

He has served with the Sanborn Fire Company for the past five years and was first aid captain.

Schmidt has also been an active member of FASNY since 1975, representing Niagara County from 2002 to 2007. He was elected to that group’s convention committee in 2001, treasurer in 2004 and has been secretary since 2005. He was also housing chairman for FASNY conventions in Niagara Falls in 1998 and 2009.

Schmidt was elected vice president of the firemen’s home at the FASNY’s 142nd annual convention in Albany and will serve a one-year term as vice president.
