Lupinacci: Tuition Aid Application Deadline Extended For Student Volunteer Firefighters

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,I – South Huntington) is informing the dedicated volunteers in our local fire departments that they may still receive tuition aid from the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) through their Higher Education Learning Plan (HELP), but the deadline is fast approaching. The deadline to apply for the spring semester has been extended to February 20.

“I encourage all interested constituents to take advantage of this great opportunity to save on their tuition while also serving and protecting our communities,” said Lupinacci. “Volunteerism is the foundation to a strong and moral community, and we should always appreciate the valuable services that our dedicated first responders provide.”

FASNY HELP allows volunteer firefighters who maintain a good grade point average at a New York State community college and are in good standing in their department to be eligible for up to 100 percent reimbursement of their tuition for up to 80 credit hours.

“The majority of New York State fire departments are operated by volunteers who are dedicated to their communities and care about the well-being of their friends, families, and neighbors,” said Lupinacci. “We are fortunate to have many volunteer firefighters on Long Island so taking advantage of this tuition assistance program would certainly benefit them if they are pursuing higher education.”
