Bellone Swears in Selden’s Robert McConville as Firemen’s Association of the State of New York President
County Executive Steve Bellone swore in Robert McConville of the Selden Fire Department as the new president of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) on August 22 at their annual convention in Albany, NY.
“I am incredibly proud to have one of Suffolk’s bravest leading the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York,” Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said. “Bob has dedicated his life to serving our community and is well deserving of this honor. I wish him the best of luck in his tenure as president.”
McConville has been member of FASNY since 1982 and previously served as 1st Vice President. He also serves in the Suffolk County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Southern New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Suffolk County Volunteer Fire Department Emerald Society, and New York State and Suffolk County Drill Team Captains Associations.
McConville joined the St. James Fire Department in 1968 and transferred to the Selden Volunteer Fire Department in 1981. He served as a captain, treasurer and state-certified E.M.T. in the Selden Fire Department before being elected as Selden Fire District Commissioner in 2009.
Bellone also recognized Bohemia Fire Department’s Thomas Gorman at the convention who was named FASNY’s 2014 Firefighter of the Year.
FASNY provides information, education and training for the volunteer fire and emergency medical services throughout New York State. They also recognize educators for their work in fire prevention education and provide legislative representation on topics of importance to fire services.
