Teacher of the Year Application

FASNY invites communities and schools across the state to honor their best fire prevention educators with a nomination for Teacher of the Year. Each year, the FASNY Fire Prevention and Life Safety Committee recognizes a teacher with dedication to fire prevention and the safety of students and their families.

Criteria

Eligible teachers must:

Teach at the elementary or secondary level in a public, private or parochial school in New York State.
Be nominated by a fire department, company, sectional or county organization; school principal; or administrator. Applications must include additional documents (see the instructions below).
Demonstrate, help or support local Fire Prevention and Life Safety that is presented to the student body or brings in a group to provide these safety lessons. Nominees will be judged on the originality of their program(s), the duration of their efforts throughout the year, the support received from local fire organizations and how long the nominee has been presenting their program in years.
Applications MUST contain a picture of the applicant.
Deadline for application submissions is March 15, 2026.
Recipients will be selected on APRIL 15, 2026.

NOTE: FASNY award winners will be publicly promoted in press releases and print publications as well as on television, radio or the web. The Association reserves the right to use the person’s image for publicity, including – but not limited to – print, broadcast and web/social media. The recipient is expected to speak at the annual Convention and be available for photo opportunities, television appearances and other promotional events. In the event the recipient does not agree to these terms, the name may be withdrawn. In the event that we are in a National/State of emergency, due the Pandemic or other natural disaster the award ceremony may be held at the award winner’s department or alternate site.

Nominations

Nominations for the Teacher of the Year Award may be submitted annually by a school principal/administrator or a volunteer fire company, department or association (county, sectional, chiefs, etc.).

Letters of support and any other supporting material accompanying the nomination will become the property of FASNY.

The presentation of this award will be made at a ceremony convenient for both the recipient’s location and FASNY.
