Fire Safety Educator of the Year Application

The Firefighters Association of the State of New York invites departments and organizations across the state to honor their best fire safety advocates with a nomination for Fire Safety Educator of the Year. The nomination may be for an individual, a group of individuals or an organization that collectively promotes fire and life safety. Each year, FASNY’s Fire Prevention and Life Safety Committee will recognize an educator, a group or an organization with dedication to fire prevention and the safety of the residents in their community.

Criteria

Eligible educators must:

Be nominated by a fire department, company, sectional or county organization. Applications must include additional documentation (see the instructions below).
Demonstrate innovative ways of presenting fire prevention and life safety education to the public. Nominees will be judged on the originality of their program(s), where the program is presented within the community, the duration of their efforts throughout the year, the support received from the local fire company and how long the nominee has been presenting their program in years. This information should be included in your nomination letter.
Applications MUST contain a picture of the applicant.
Deadline for application submissions March 15, 2026.
Recipients will be selected on APRIL 15, 2026.
NOTE: FASNY award winners will be publicly promoted in press releases and print publications as well as on television, radio or the web. The Association reserves the right to use the person’s image for publicity, including – but not limited to – print, broadcast and web/social media. The recipient is expected to speak at the annual Convention and be available for photo opportunities, television appearances and other promotional events. In the event the recipient does not agree to these terms, the name may be withdrawn. In the event that we are in a National/State of emergency, due the Pandemic or other natural disaster the award ceremony may be held at the award winner’s department or alternate site.

Nominations

Nominations for the FASNY Fire Safety Educator of the Year Award may be submitted annually by a volunteer fire company, department or association (county, sectional, chiefs, etc.).

The nominating letter must be submitted on official stationery and signed by the Chief, President or Secretary of the nominating organization.

Letters of support and any other submitted materials accompanying the nomination, such as examples of curriculum, will become the property of FASNY.

The presentation of this award will be made at a ceremony convenient for both the recipient’s location and FASNY.
