Who Came Out On Top?
Town of Virgil, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It was a weekend full of games and camaraderie as firefighters from across New York State battle it out in the annual FASNY Firefighter Winter Games.
The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York held the event February 4 and 5. 375 firefighters from across New York State participated in full turnout gear. Sixty-one total teams participated.
Marathon Team 1 came out victorious as the Winter Games Champion.
The event was co-sponsored by the Cortland County Firemen’s Association. Games were played at both Greek Peak in the Town of Virgil and at the State University of New York- Cortland.
While the games were meant to be fun and sporting, there is a definite training aspect to the games. For example, the Hose Relay Event was a training ground, teaching firefighters how important it is to work together while fighting a fire.
Every year, the winner of each event is honored in “The Volunteer Firefighter” magazine. All participants in the Winter Games receive medals and the top three teams in each event receive trophies.
