Volunteer firefighters in New York State don’t get the benefits paid firefighters do, like medical coverage. But that could change.
A bill that’s already passed the state assembly and senate would provide financial help to some volunteer firefighters diagnosed with certain types of cancer.
On Wednesday, members of FASNY, or the Fireman’s Association of the State of New York, called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to sign the legislation.
Gov. Cuomo’s office released a statement that reads:
“The legislation, which was one of more than 500 that passed both houses in the last days of session, has not yet been delivered to the governor’s desk. It remains under review by counsel’s office.”
