Volunteer firefighters laud lawmaker for support
Volunteer firefighters from across New York presented state Sen. Joseph A. Griffo with their 2016 Golden Trumpet Award.
The presentation came during the legislative conference of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York in Albany, according to an announcement by the organization.
The award, the association’s top honor, is given to a person who has shown support for the firefighting community, the announcement added.
Griffo, R-47, Rome, was cited for his legislative work, especially pushing legislation for presumptive cancer care for volunteer firefighters.
The Senate has passed this bill during two consecutive sessions, Griffo said, adding his gratitude for volunteer
firefighters.
“Volunteer firefighters deserve our utmost respect, but just as importantly, they deserve our official support,” said Griffo. “It is the obligation of all New Yorkers to ensure that those who willingly place themselves into harm’s way, so that others may live, receive the very best care available when it is needed.”
Firefighters from across the state met over the weekend to discuss which topics are important for the next legislative session.
