Turn clocks back, replace smoke, CO alarm batteries
When you turn your clocks back an hour for the end of daylight saving time this weekend, the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York reminds you to do one more thing—replace the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Eastern Standard Time returns at 2 a.m. Sunday.
More than 2,600 Americans die in house fires every year, the U. S. Fire Administration reports, and more than half of them take place between 10 p. m. and 7 a. m., when people are usually sleeping.
