STUDENT FROM TOWN OF WEBB UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT IN OLD FORGE CHOSEN AS A WINNER OF THE FIREMEN’S ASSOCIATION OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK VOLUNTEER SCHOLARSHIP

On behalf of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), FASNY Scholarship Awards Committee Chairman Daniel McNeil and Scholarship Advisory Committee Chairman Brian F. McQueen have announced the name of a local recipient of the FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship – Luke J. Beauchamp of Eagle Bay, NY. On June 7, FASNY President David Jacobowitz, along with McQueen who is also on the FASNY Board of Directors, presented the award to Luke at the Inlet Emergency Services Building. Luke received a certificate as well as a check for $1,000 for his volunteer service in the community.

Beauchamp graduated from the Town of Webb Union Free School District in Old Forge, and will attend the Rochester Institute of Technology. Luke is a member of the Eagle Bay Volunteer Hose Co. He is also a member of the Inlet Volunteer Emergency Services.

Luke was one of 10 students chosen for this scholarship. A total of 130 students throughout the state applied for this scholarship, which was the highest number ever submitted in the history of this award.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her community (e.g., community projects, fire department, scouting, church, school, work with senior citizens, fire prevention projects, 4-H, etc.) and the proof of his or her character (e.g.,
community citizenship, dependability, etc.)
