STUDENT FROM SOUTHERN CAYUGA HIGH SCHOOL IN AURORA CHOSEN AS A WINNER OF FIREMEN’S ASSOCIATION OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK VOLUNTEER SCHOLARSHIP

On behalf of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), FASNY Scholarship Awards Committee Chairman Daniel McNeil and Scholarship Advisory Committee Chairman Brian F. McQueen have announced the name of a local recipient of the FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship – Kimberly Nedza of Scipio Center, NY. On June 27, FASNY Director Ken Pienkowski presented the scholarship award to Kimberly at the Scipio
Fire Station. She received a certificate as well as a check for $1,000 for her volunteer service in the community.

Kimberly graduated from Southern Cayuga High School and will attend Niagara University. She is active with the Scipio Volunteer Fire Company. Kimberly was instrumental in raising funds for a local youth summer camp and for Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE).

Kimberly was one of 10 students chosen for this scholarship. A total of 130 students throughout the state applied for this scholarship, which was the highest number ever submitted in the history of this award.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her community (e.g., community projects, fire department, scouting, church, school, work with senior citizens, fire prevention projects, 4-H, etc.) and the proof of his or her character (e.g.,
community citizenship, dependability, etc.)
