STUDENT FROM RUSH-HENRIETTA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN HENRIETTA CHOSEN AS A WINNER OF THE FIREMEN’S ASSOCIATION OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK VOLUNTEER SCHOLARSHIP
On behalf of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), FASNY Scholarship Awards Committee Chairman Daniel McNeil and Scholarship Advisory Committee Chairman Brian F. McQueen announced the name of a local recipient of the FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship – Joseph P. Schutt of Henrietta, NY. On June 6, FASNY Board Member David Sweet and Scholarship Committee Member William Nichols presented the scholarship award to Joseph Schutt at the Rush Fire Station’s monthly meeting. Joseph received a certificate as well as a check for $1,000 for his volunteer service in the
community. Joseph’s parents, brother, and explorer advisor, Royer Pfersick, were in attendance.
Joseph graduated from Rush-Henrietta Senior High School in Monroe County and will attend Clarkson University. Joseph is a member of the Rush Fire Department Explorer Post #634. His community service Eagle Scout Project was to improve the physical environment for an organization that cares for injured birds of prey.
Joseph was one of 10 students chosen for this scholarship. A total of 130 students throughout the state applied for this scholarship, which was the highest number ever submitted in the history of this award.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her community (e.g., community projects, fire department, scouting, church, school, work with senior citizens, fire prevention projects, 4-H, etc.) and the proof of his or her character (e.g., community citizenship, dependability, etc.)
