STUDENT FROM NEW HYDE PARK MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL CHOSEN AS A WINNER OF FIREMEN’S ASSOCIATION OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK VOLUNTEER SCHOLARSHIP
On behalf of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), FASNY Scholarship Awards Committee Chairman Daniel McNeil and Scholarship Advisory Committee Chairman Brian F. McQueen have announced the name of a local recipient of the FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship – Ciara R. McCullagh of New Hyde Park. On June 16, FASNY Board Director Michael Reid presented the award to Ciara at the New Hyde Park Fire Department. She received a certificate as well as a check for $1,000 for her volunteer service in the community.
Ciara graduated from New Hyde Park Memorial High School and will attend Johns Hopkins University. Ciara is a member of Students Putting an End to Cancer. She also volunteers at Ronald McDonald House.
Ciara was one of 10 students chosen for this scholarship. A total of 130 students throughout the state applied for this scholarship, which was the highest number ever submitted in the history of this award.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her community (e.g., community projects, fire department, scouting, church, school, work with senior citizens, fire prevention projects, 4-H, etc.) and the proof of his or her character (e.g.,
community citizenship, dependability, etc.)
