Shoppers warned to avoid novelty lighters

Don’t buy novelty lighters!

That’s the message firefighters and consumer advocates hope shoppers hear this holiday season.

During a press conference in Albany Monday morning, the groups spoke of two Arkansas boys who died after setting their home on fire using a motorcycle shaped lighter.

They say kids don’t always realize the toy-like lighters are dangerous, so they want you to steer clear of them.

So far, 15 states have statutes against or totally banning novelty lighters
