Roscoe teacher wins state award

The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York’s Fire Prevention and Life Safety Committee named Michele Hood, art teacher for the Roscoe School District for the past 21 years, as its teacher of the year during a ceremony on Sept. 4.

Hood is the only art teacher in the one-building district where preschool through 12th grade are taught. Hood includes fire prevention and safety in her curriculum by having students create posters. She also hosts fire safety assemblies and has worked with volunteer firefighters in helping teach students the role firefighters play in keeping the community safe. Hood was nominated by Principal Janice Phillips.
