NY Firefighters in Albany to Set 2016 Agenda

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – Volunteer firefighters are gathering in Albany this weekend to map out their legislative priorities for next year.

Smoke alarms could be a top agenda item at the two-day meeting of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York.

The group supports state legislation that would require battery-powered smoke alarms to come with non-removable, 10-year batteries.

Hundreds are expected to attend the weekend firefighters’ conference at a hotel outside of Albany.

The group represents about 92,000 volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel in New York.
