DavidF. Schmidt, of Sanborn, was elected to the board of trustees of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York Firemen’s Home, a specialized rehabilitation facility for retired volunteer firefighters in Hudson. He will serve a five-year term.
Schmidt began his fire service career as a junior firefighter in 1971. On his 18th birthday in 1975, he became an active firefighter with Lewiston Fire Company No. 2. One year later, he was appointed a junior lieutenant and has served in the line offices of senior lieutenant, 1st and 2nd assistant chief, and chief in 1980. He also served as president in 1983 in addition to the positions of secretary, financial secretary and sergeant-at-arms.
He has served as president of the exempt and benevolent association since 1992. He also has served with the Sanborn Fire Company for six years. He has been a member of the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association since 1975, including as trustee representing Niagara County from 2002 to 2007. He is currently a member of the Fire Prevention and 2-percent committees and is vice chairman of the Steering Committee. Schmidt has been a member of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York since 1975.
