Meeting will address volunteer firefighter legislation

Canandaigua meeting will address volunteer firefighter legislation.

The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York and Northern Central New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association will host a breakfast meeting Saturday in Canandaigua to discuss legislation regarding the volunteer fire service.

Emergency responders and firefighters will attend from surrounding counties. A pertinent discussion topic will be fair play billing ” or asking non-county residents to pay for emergency response services they may receive from a neighboring county, where they are not taxpayers.

The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Ontario County Training Facility in Ontario County Public Safety Building No. 2914, 2914 County Road 48. Coffee and refreshments will be served.

Free blood pressure testing for community members will be available from 8:30 to around 10 a.m.

Free Vial of Life forms will also be distributed. The Vial-of-Life is a way to have your medical needs, such as records or lists of medications, quickly accessible to first responders who answer emergency calls.

FASNY started the Legislative Outreach Program in 2008, and has held more than 70 meetings in different NY regions to inform communities about legislation involving the volunteer fire service.
