In July 2015, the Baldwin Fire Department was dispatched to an initial report of smoke coming from an apartment on Old Mill Road – where the police reported that there were people trapped in the second floor apartment. Fred arrived in his personal vehicle and conducted a search, he found a 56 year-old male in the apartment and removed him to wait for EMS personnel outside. Fred went above and beyond the call of duty that day.

The FASNY award was presented to Fred on August 13th at FASNY’s 144th Annual Convention in Albany. Kopf will also receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Baldwin Fire Department later this year.
