Local officials discuss issues with local firefighters over breakfast

Local elected officials spent Saturday morning at the Deerfield Fire House in Trenton for breakfast and discussed issues with local firefighters.

Among the issues discussed was a fallen firefighter recognition bill and amendments to local governments who want to consolidate fire departments.

One important thing organizers want to get across is the need for more volunteer firefighters in Central New York.

David Jacobowitz, President of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York said, “with the recession, a lot of people are now working two jobs, or husbands and wife are working two jobs and it gives very little time for volunteering.”

Among those in attendance at the breakfast was new Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol, Congressman Richard Hanna, State Senator Joe Griffo and Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito.
