LAKE GEORGE RESIDENT THOMAS McKINNEY ELECTED TRUSTEE OF FASNY FIREMEN’S HOME

Thomas McKinney of Lake George, a 35-year veteran of the fire service, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Firemen’s Home, a specialized residential healthcare facility for retired volunteer firefighters in Hudson, NY.  McKinney was unanimously chosen at FASNY’s 140th Annual Convention at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool, NY, on August 17.  He will serve a second five-year term as a Trustee.

Tom has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Firemen’s Home since 2007, succeeding his father, Robert, in the role. The Firemen’s Home for retired volunteer firefighters has been maintained since 1892 by FASNY.

Tom’s 35-year fire service career includes service as a charter member and eventual captain of the water-rescue arm of Lake George V.F.D. and as a line officer and Fire Chief from 2001-2005.

Tom is an active member of at least 10 volunteer fire fighting-related organizations, including FASNY, where he led committees including Resolutions, Recruitment and Retention, and as an appointee on the Governor’s Task Force on recruiting and retention of fire volunteers. On the regional level, he served as President of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association from 2008 to 2009.

In his private life, Tom is an employee of Warren County, NY, and serves a Building Inspector specializing in Fire Safety Inspections. He was voted Lake George’s Citizen of the Year in 2002 and served as Cubmaster of Pack 20, Scoutmaster of Troop 20, and oversaw the 911 Explorer group. He is married to Kim and has two children, Thomas Jr. and Anna, and a stepson, Robert.
