The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York held its 7th Annual Youth Day on Friday at the Rensselaer Fire Training Center August 21.

Young people from the Baldwinsville Volunteer Fire Company and the Baldwinsville Junior Firefighters joined dozens of junior firefighters from across New York State to take part in the day’s events to gain valuable hands-on firefighter training.

The junior firefighters practiced search and rescue drills, hose advancement, fire pump and drafting operations, and more. Youth Day showcases the future of New York’s fire service, and highlights the need for more young people to join their local volunteer fire departments. Participating were dozens of Junior Firefighters and Explorers aged 12 to 19, Seasoned Fire Department Instructors, Volunteer First Responders, FASNY Leaders.

Youth Day is one of the many activities taking place during the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York’s annual firefighter convention, which includes volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel who are visiting from across New York State. Fire officers, commissioners and others representing various fire departments and fire districts were also in attendance to discuss issues of critical importance to the state’s approximately 92,000 volunteer emergency services personnel.

Founded in 1872, the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) represents the interests of the more than 92,000 volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel in New York State.
