In Memoriam: Past President Gerard J. Buckenmeyer (1929 – 2018)

FASNY Past President (1994-1996) Gerard J. Buckenmeyer, 89, of Alexander passed away on December 22, 2018.

Jerry was a Past President of the Alexander Volunteer Fire Department, the Western New York Volunteer Firemen’s Association and FASNY. He leaves behind the legacy of the Gerard J. Buckenmeyer FASNY Volunteer Scholarship Fund.

Jerry was born in Alexander to the late Frederick and Minnietta (Bartz) Buckenmeyer. He grew up on the family farm in Alexander and remained in the community his entire life. In addition to his service as a volunteer firefighter he was very active in many church and community organizations.

Mr. Buckenmeyer was a United States Postal Service employee and a member of the Rural Letter Carrier Association. He was past president and a longtime member of Alexander Central School Board of Education who enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their school endeavors. In addition, Jerry was a member of the Holy Name Society and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

Jerry was predeceased by his son, Brian, and his sister, Rita Ann Welker. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Ann (Meyers); his children, Andrew (Sue) of Alexander, Philip (Gail), of Liverpool, Colette (Richard) Guarino, of Alexander, Michelle Buckenmeyer of Rochester, and Judy (John) Borner of Deerfield; daughter-in-law, Laura, of Lake Ridge, Va.; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
