Griffo honored with award from Firemen’s Association of New York

ALBANY, N.Y. – State Senator Joseph Griffo has been honored with an award from the Firemen’s Association of New York, Griffo announced Monday.

On Sunday Griffo received the 2016 Golden Trumpet Award to recognize him for the work he does on behalf of all his constituents, particularly for the volunteer fire service.

The award is typically given to state legislators, government officials and others who have demonstrated exceptional support and assistance to the volunteer fire service.

Griffo’s efforts include fighting for presumptive cancer coverage for volunteer firefighters. He co-sponsored abill that would provide protection and security to nearly 110,000 volunteer firefighters in the state.

“Volunteer firefighters deserve our utmost respect, but just as importantly, they deserve our official support,” Griffo said in a news release. “It is the obligation of all New Yorkers to ensure that those who willingly place themselves into harm’s way, so that others may live, receive the very best care available when it is needed.”

“State Senator Joseph Griffo is the latest in a long line of elected officials to be honored with the Golden Trumpet, and he is a highly deserving recipient,” said FASNY President Ken Pienkowski. “He has worked tirelessly on behalf of New York’s volunteer firefighters to advance the issue of presumptive cancer coverage. We are grateful for his tremendous leadership and dedication, and look forward to working together even more in the future.”
