For First Time, Women’s Teams Compete in Firefighter Winter Games
Nearly 400 volunteer firefighters from across the state were in Cortland this weekend for the 10th annual FASNY Firefighter Winter Games.
This year’s games are being hosted by the Cortland County Firemen’s Association. About 45 teams are taking part in competitions like tubing, tug-o-war, hose race and broomball.
And while many of the games are fun, they also help crew members hone important skills.
“We learn from one another to see what one department might do differently which might have some application background from where they are from. And of course the training aspect is important too,” FASNY Chief Admistrative Officer David Quinn said.
This marked the first year two female teams competed.
