Firefighters urge the Governor to sign cancer bill

Representatives from the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York are calling on Governor Andrew Cuomo to sign into law legislation that provides gap coverage for volunteer firefighters diagnosed with certain types of cancer.

They gathered today at the Cicero fire engine house.

This is a benefit that paid firefighters already have, but much of New York is protected by the volunteer fire service who don’t fall under the requirement of existing legislation.

The bill passed unanimously in both Chambers of State Legislation this season.

When asked for a comment on the legislation, Cuomo said, “that is a bill that I’m favorably disposed to, I’ll say that.”
