FASNY Convention gives kids firsthand firefighter experience

A day of hands-on experience in Syracuse for some teens interested in becoming firefighters.

Friday was Youth Training Day as part of the FASNY Convention.

The Syracuse Fire Department Training Center hosted the event.

Participants learned how to rescue a firefighter on a roof and navigate the training center’s burn building.

Fire officials say it’s a great recruitment tool to get kids interested early on.

“If there’s an opportunity to maybe express some interest in becoming a career firefighter they are getting the chance to see how a fire department operates and the level of training that we understake on a daily basis,” said Lt. Brian Falise, Syracuse Fire Department.

The FASNY Convention continues Saturday.
