FASNY Announces Oneida County Recipient of Volunteer Scholarship
ONEIDA COUNTY – The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) announced a local recipient of the FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmyer Volunteer Scholarship.
Tyler McGough, of Woodgate Fire Department, received a certificate as well as a check for $1,500 for his volunteer service in the community.
Tyler McGough graduates from Town of Webb Union Free School in Old Forge, and will attend Alfred State College starting fall of 2015 with a major in Mechanical Engineering.
“The scholarship is really going to help out a lot. On top of the benefit of helping people, it really gives other students incentive to join once they see the great benefits,” said Tyler.
Tyler was one of 15 students chosen for this scholarship out of a total of 86 applicants.
On top of his diverse extracurricular activities, including baseball, soccer, President of Varsity club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Tyler is also a volunteer firefighter for Woodgate. His grandfather is Chief of the Stittville Fire Department.
According to FASNY, scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her, the proof of his or her character and completion of an essay.
