Fallen firefighters honored at FASNY Convention
ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. — The three-day convention for the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York came to an emotional conclusion Friday.
About 200 members of FASNY and other firefighters across the state gathered at the Edgewood in Alexandria Bay to honor the 265 firefighters who died over the last year.
There were readings, songs and prayers. As the names of those who died were read, a bell was rung and candles extinguished.
“These were very, very brave individuals. We need to continue that because it’s a basis of not equipment, but people. It’s a spirit that’s there and we need to instill that spirit in the new generation too,” said Rev. Wayne Jagow, FASNY Chaplain.
About 2,000 firefighters and officials from all over state spent the week in Alex Bay for the Convention.
