FAIRVILLE EXPLORER POST 751 RECEIVES FIRST-EVER FASNY YOUTH GROUP OF THE YEAR AWARD

(BROCKPORT, NY) On June 2, members of Fairville Explorer Post 751 were recognized at a special presentation during the Northern Central Convention at the Brockport Volunteer Fireman’s Exempt Benevolent Association, as they received the inaugural Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Youth Group of the Year Award. This honor is presented to a youth fire organization that exemplifies commitment to its volunteer fire department and community.

The Explorers and their advisors were awarded service pins and a group plaque. The Explorer Post members at the presentation included Tim Magee, Jacob Wheeler, Kristen DeGelleke, Michelle Magee, and Darcianne Orbaker. Explorers Samantha Grey and Alan Mack were unable to attend.

Fairville Explorer Post 751 participates in various projects and events to support its community and fire department. The members visit a local elementary school every year to teach students about fire prevention and home safety. They also support fundraisers, such as a breakfast with Santa, carnivals and their well-known 7-weeks of fish fries. In addition, the group also dedicates a great deal of their time on fire training by organizing their own monthly drills, as well as attending Youth Day, Montour Falls and the Northern Central’s Explorer Training Day. One of the fun and exciting volunteer firefighter events they participate in each year is the Winter Games in Greek Peak.

“We are very proud of the tremendous work and volunteerism put forth by the members of the Fairville Explorer Post,” said Beth Bennett, FASNY Youth in the Fire Service Committee Chair. “It is important to commend the young people of today for their dedication and involvement in public safety and community programs.”

The Youth Group of the Year Award recipient must participate for a minimum of one year in an active program; demonstrate dedication to their volunteer fire department and community through fire service-related projects, training, and community service; and exhibit qualities of honor, teamwork, and allegiance to the volunteer fire service.
