FASNY held its annual Legislative Conference November 1-2 in Albany. The Legislative Conference is the result of months of work starting with grassroots input and culminating with the organization’s legislative agenda for 2015.
Saturday, November 1, saw most of the sectional representatives meet to discuss their positions on the pieces of legislation that would be voted on during the general session on Sunday. By the time the busy weekend was over, nine pieces of legislation and six study bills made their way onto FASNY’s 2015 legislative program.
The general session on Sunday also took a few moments to honor one of our own. The prestigious Golden Trumpet Award was given posthumously to Bobby Knight for his years of dedication and hard work in fighting for FASNY’s legislative interests.
Knight was the longtime vice chair of the FASNY Legislative Committee and passed suddenly this year while lobbying in Washington, D.C., on FASNY’s behalf. A plaque was also given to the Sayville Fire Department, where Knight was a 35-year member, commemorating his achievements.
