Moravia, NY -- More than 70-years after he died on the way to a call, a Moravia fire chief will be honored Tuesday at the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Albany.
Edward J. Coiley was 51, and serving in his first year as chief of the Moravia Volunteer Fire Department, when on April 5, 1936 he fell under the wheels of a fire truck on its way to a call in the Town of Locke.
Coiley suffered a fractured spine and died enroute to the hospital in Auburn.
His name will be inscribed Tuesday on the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Albany.
Members of his family have been invited to attend the ceremony with representatives from the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York.
