Pictures of Youth Day at the 2009 FASNY Convention

The FASNY Youth in the Fire Service Committee held its first annual FASNY Youth Day as part of the 137th annual FASNY Convention on Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 at the Frontier Volunteer Fire Company in the Town of Wheatfield, NY. This event drew nearly 30 junior firefighters and explorers from across New York State to a day of training and education dedicated specifically to the future of the volunteer fire service. The participants were involved in a series of evolutions that included SCBA training, hose line advancement, water stream and nozzle familiarization, fire extinguisher training and rope rescue hoisting and repelling. All evolutions were active, hands-on programs supervised by certified OFPC State Fire Instructors. After the hands-on evolutions, each participant was served lunch sponsored by the Niagara County Convention Committee and dessert sponsored by Perry’s Ice Cream. They then proceeded back to the Convention headquarters at the Niagara Falls Convention Center to attend the presentations by world renowned fire service educators J. Gordon Routley and Billy Goldfeder. Each participant received a certificate of completion from FASNY, and everyone involved enjoyed a fantastic event.
