Committees:

Fire Prevention and Life Safety Committee

This committee is composed of members of FASNY representing each section of the state. Additionally, the committee is assigned the task of promoting fire prevention and life safety by educating the public and firefighters on how to promote fire prevention and life safety.  The committee presents workshops to provide information and ideas to enhance the development of fire prevention programs within fire departments.

The purpose of the Fire Prevention and Life Safety Committee is to reduce accidents, serious injuries, and deaths by providing informative materials and programs that teach fire prevention and life safety. The committee also honors two outstanding individuals annually who go above and beyond in teaching fire prevention and life safety to their students.

Teacher of the Year

The Firemen's Association of the State of New York has established this prestigious award to honor teachers in New York State for outstanding effort in teaching fire and life safety education in their schools. The FASNY Fire Prevention and Life Safety Committee presents one award to a teacher at the elementary or secondary level, currently teaching in a public, private or parochial school in our state.

Fire Safety Educator of the Year

The Firemen's Association of the State of New York presents an award to a volunteer firefighter in recognition of his or her exceptional efforts in presenting fire prevention and safety education to the residents of the State of New York. The award is presented annually to a New York State volunteer firefighter for his or her commitment in the field of fire prevention and life safety education. Presentation of the award will be made at a local ceremony.
